Amanda Thorstad
Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar
Amanda Thorstad (she/her) teaches fiddle, banjo, and guitar to students ages 8 - 80s. She’s rooted in the old-time traditions of the South Eastern and Upper Midwestern regions of the United States, as well as Bluegrass.
She grew up learning music in piano lessons and school music programs, culminating in a Music Degree from St. Olaf. A few years ago she accidentally stumbled into folk & traditional music and hasn’t looked back.
Amanda’s got a particular knack for students who think they are “too old to learn,” and can help students with creaky fingers and slippery memories. She utilizes both written and oral teaching methods, according to student preference.
Outside of her musical life, Amanda is an avid beer brewer, plant enthusiast, snow lover, and hiker. You’ll find her around town on the trails with her dog, Leo, and frequenting the local coffee shops.
